KeeGuard® Installation Instructions
Note - The system's modular components typically allow two installers to install a 300 foot run in 8 hours.
| 1 Having ensured the location of the first main upright is free from stones, loose debris, ice, snow, or standing water, position a KGU. |
5 Slide the Schedule 40 11/2" galvanized pipe through the fittings at the top and mid section of the uprights to form the rails and tighten the grub screws. Connect the lengths of handrail together using a Kee Klamp fitting 14-8 (straight coupling). |
|
|
6
Simply continue along the roof edge repeating steps 4 & 5 |
|
2
Connect the counterbalance assembly, CB5 to the KGU upright with the 44" long 11/4" pipe and tighten the grub screws to 29 foot pounds torque (39Nm).
|
7 Ideally the 14-8 connections on the mid rail and top rail should be offset by 6’6". 8 At 90° corners use the Kee Klamp fitting 15-8. Ensure that an upright is no further than 20” from the corner and the total length between uprights around the corner is no greater than 6’6" |
|
3
Position a KGU at 3’ 3" from the first upright and connect a CB3 assembly with the 29" long 11/4" pipe and tighten the grub screws to 29 foot pounds torque (39Nm).
4
Position a KGU at 6’ 6” from the previous upright and connect a CB1 assemblywith the 29" long 11/4" pipe and tighten the grub screws to 29 foot pounds torque (39Nm). |

Special Situations
Slippery and/or Wet Conditions
In a situation where a free-end is to be positioned within 6' 6" of a fall hazard, there being no parapet wall or other construction which would act as a secondary constraint upon slippage and there being no other reasonable means of providing a structural tie to the free-end, then the free-end construction must be configured as shown in the diagram below in order to avoid the possibility of slippage under wet conditions. Kee Industrial Products, Inc. advises that KeeGuard should not be installed during snowy or icy weather unless all snow and ice is cleared first. Great care must be taken and extra personal protection provided if roofs and other elevated areas are to be accessed during conditions of high wind, ice or snow whether or not edge-protection is provided.
Corners
At corners greater or less than 90°, where a run is continuous, use Kee Klamp fitting BC53-8 (variable elbow) with spacing no greater than 6’6” between uprights and one upright no further than 20" from the corner.
