KEEGUARD® SPECIFICATIONS, ROOF EDGE RAILING, OSHA COMPLIANT

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01  SUMMARY

Provide and install free-standing KeeGuard® Roof Edge Protection System, including pipe railings, uprights, bases, counterweights, fittings and delivery to site.

Reference:  OSHA: 1910.23 All Applicable State, Local and Regional Codes.

1.02  WORK INCLUDED

Include all labor, materials, equipment, transportation and services required to complete the installation of the roof accessories as shown on the drawings and/or herein specified.

1.03 SUBMITTALS

1. Shop drawing: Indicate profiles, sizes, connections, size and type of fasteners and accessories.

2. Field Measurements: Verify field measurements prior to assembly and/or ordering.

1.04 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

1. Railing shall consist of top rails, mid rails, uprights, counterweights and connections.

2. All pipe connections to be Kee Klamp® structural pipe fittings manufactured to the requirements of ASTM A47-77-32510.

3. Railing assembly to resist lateral force of 200 lbs. at any point without damage and tipping. Test in accordance with OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.23.

PART 2 - MATERIALS

2.02 KeeGuard Roof Edge Protection System

2.03 Furnish and install freestanding KeeGuard Roof Edge Protection System following the layout provided by the manufacturer.  System shall be a counterweighted guardrail system with 42" min. height to provide a pedestrian egress barrier on the roof.  System shall withstand a minimum load of 200 lbs. in any direction to all components per OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.23.

Components:

1. Pipe: ASTM A53 1-1/2 inch schedule 40, Galvanized.

2. Rails and Posts: 1-1/2 inch diameter steel pipe, galvanized.

3. KeeKlamp fittings: Elbows, Crossovers, Wall flanges, Tees, Couplings, galvanized.

4. Mounting Bases: Galvanized steel bases to have a factory installed rubber pad placed under the plate.

5. Counterweights: "green" recycled PVC.

Finish:

1. Pipe for handrails, mid-rails, uprights and counterweight connection is to be galvanized mill finish to the requirements of ASTM A53.

2. Kee Klamp Fittings, bases and counterweights shall be galvanized to meet ASTM A53. Counter weights shall be manufactured from "green" recycled PVC.

Assembly:

1. Fit and shop assemble components in largest practical sizes for delivery to site.

2. Upright tops shall be plugged with weather and light resistant material.

3. Assemble components with joints tightly fitted and secured.

4. Accurately form components to suit installation.

PART III EXECUTION

3.01  INSTALLATION

1. For all connections with Kee Klamp fittings, each set screw is to be tightened to 29 foot-pounds of torque.

2. Placement of uprights and counterweights to meet manufacturer specifications as stated in the KeeGuard Installation Instructions.

3. Terminate the run as stated in the KeeGuard Installation Instructions.
