About Our Skylight Screens and Railings Fall Protection

Our commercial and industrial skylight railings and skylight screens prevent falls through skylights.  According to OSHA statistics, these accidents are a major cause of death from falls.  The Safety Rail Source provides the solutions for protecting against such falls with our E-Z to install, non-penetrating product line.  Our skylight railings and skylight screens meet OSHA standards and are designed to withstand up to a 400 pound load requirement if required.  Our skylight screens include protection for domed, standing seam and corrugated skylights.  For larger skylights, we offer KeeGuard Skylight Railing Systems.  In our skylight screen product line, we offer galvanized or stainless steel mesh.  Installation of our skylight protection products is easy, quick and can be performed either by your contractor or your maintenance staff.  Installation of our STS and SSS models is completed with an engineered clamp-on type connection.  Our skylight railings are free-standing and non-penetrating and manufactured with heavy duty galvanized pipe and fittings.  They are shipped in a kit and assembled with a hex key.

Materials

STS Model Skylight Screen:
Mounting Frame consists of two extruded 6005-T6 aluminum rails that rest on the outside frame of the skylight on its long sides. The aluminum frames are connected with two 5/16” cold rolled, zinc plated threaded rods installed on the short sides of the skylight with nylon insert lock nuts and zinc-plated washers. The screen material is .187 and .250 diameter 304 stainless steel or galvanized carbon steel wire in a 4” X 4” grid. The screen is positioned in the channel of the aluminum frame and then locked into place with 1” aluminum clips attached to the frame using ½” stainless steel hex head screws.

SSS Model Skylight Screen:
Screen Material is .187 and/or .250 diameter 304 stainless steel or galvanized wire in a 4” X 4” grid.  The larger wire diameter may be used in screens designed to fit skylights of more than 25” in width. Stainless steel straps and aluminum clamps secure the screen the the roof ribs without penetrating the roofing membrane. The clamps are tightened to the ribs with set screws.

SCS Model Skylight Screen:
Screenn Material is .187 galvanized carbon steel wire in a welded 4” X 4” grid, flat with an overall size of 40” x 128”. Support Channels are 128” in length are formed to fit over standard ribbed or corrugated profiles. Channels rest on two of the skylight panel major ribs and are positioned lengthwise beyond the ends of the installed skylight and are attached through the roof to the steel or wood building purlins with supplied fasteners. The screen is attached at the same time using metal clips included in the kit.

Installation of Skylight Screens
The Safety Rail Source skylight screens are fast and E-Z to install and do not penetrate the roofing membrane (except the SCS model screen which requires 4 screws into the perlins). Installation time is about 15 to 20 minutes per screen. Detailed installation instructions are included with all of our skylight screens and railings.
